Marlon Williams

Marlon Williams commands one of those rare, exquisite voices that has reviewers scrambling for superlatives to describe it.

“With a voice as smooth as oil, he could be singing a share report and still have listeners swooning,” wrote RNZ’s Nick Bollinger. Others have commented on his “Magnificent, fluttering, gender-fluid falsetto” (Guardian) and his “country croon and vibrato swoon” (The Spinoff). People have compared his voice to Elvis and Roy Orbison: agile and pure, capable of conveying the depths of human emotion. The songs he’s written and chooses to cover are both tragic, and life-affirming. And his perfect enunciation in both English and te reo Māori means we’re able to savour every syllable.
