Fan Club

aka Aishah & The Fan Club

After the darned and plaited idealism of the hippies, punk’s nihilistic filth, and the brutalist gloom of post-punk; after the rugby riots, the Rainbow Warrior and Rogernomics — by the late 80s a fair number of fellas and gals just wanted to have fun.

So a new crop of poppers popped up in EnZed, with product in their hair and angular jackets on their padded shoulders. The most successful of these — though not quite so much in Aotearoa — was Fan Club, whose future-focused ambition and professionalism brought them an international profile, playing to tens of thousands in arenas and broadcasting to millions overseas.
