Death Ray Café name-check television newsreaders including Richard Long, Judy Bailey and Philip Sherry in their semi-novelty song, the David Pine-penned ‘I Love The News’, released on Pagan Records in 1990.
The flipside ‘All Gone Crazy’ is a convincing guitar lope, first made available on Pagan’s 1989 indie compilation Positive Vibrations.
The Dunedin quartet had songwriter Mark Brooke on guitar and vocals backed up by Sneaky Feelings’ David Pine (guitar, vocals) with Peter Bell on bass and Nathan McConnell drumming. The Verlaines’ Graeme Downes played keyboards on ‘I Love The News’.
They released a non-charting album Built on Good and Right in 1991.
